Slave Docks

Overview

  • All very easy to recognize and symbolic since they are disassociated from today by being from Nemo’s time and earlier

Slave Docks - Placement in the Navigation Scheme

  • The only surface path from the Cliff Rift to the Western half of the island is from the north end of the cliff rift and then the water current will sweep the explorer to this little harbor oppression. This is a one way trip (until gaining the personal mini-sub) due to inability to climb the cliff - so participant may later on see bonsai enclosure for first time from outside it (if didn’t discover it from the Observatory access) or when hooking mini-sub Dolphin to underground tracks that branch off to Bonsai enclosure through alternate access to the Bonsai and therefore the Observatory
  • From the cliff rift and can see down into the sea, explorer will see their companion dolphin jumping..

Broad Theme

  • Negative reminders of suppression - used sparingly? And only in a surreal sense - not as permanent structures on Nemo’s Island - Only enough to remind that it is Nemo’s theme - positive human growth such as exploration of our own subconscious guides is the appropriate emphasis for this virtual world

Slave Dock Details

  • Easy to see from Northern Cliff Rift - accessed by leaping and swimming explorer is swept to
  • Wooden docks for transition from land to sea transportation of slaves - should be easy to convey the purpose (plenty of real world descriptions and drawings available to use as reference)
  • Endless resources for old fashioned wharfs on the marketplace
  • docks in great disrepair but purpose still obvious with shackle posts - the oldest structure on the island - its dilapidated form could be twisted and dipping into the water to give more ominous
  • When explorer walks onto the docks a trigger for audio FX of the bustle of slave trade and shadows of the past participants on the dock and shore
  • well known historical structures in the dream sets made by forced labor temples of Machu Picchu or Aztec or Egyptian or Great Wall etc? - music may be another good way to convey the appropriate message
